3rd prize: Remote monitoring of surface water drains
The third prize (50 000) went to Khaled Abdul Hamid Elnems from Egypt. His invention Gates for Storm Water Inlets with E-maintenance installed in gullies for automatic remote supervised sense of clogging of sand and silt. The invention is particularly useful in tropical countries where torrential rains are common, where it reduces the risk of environmental damage by floods.
A total of 130 inventions from around the world in the prestigious competition. Among EU countries, Eastern European inventions well represented. Winners were chosen from nine finalists by an international jury with members from the Swedish Inventors' Association, Foundation Agne Johansson's Memorial Fund and the International Federation of Inventors Associations.
